Hi, I'm Toby! I came to WCHS as a transfer from MADACC. I was brought in with limited use of my hind legs. The vets at MADACC and WCHS couldn't find any abnormalities in my x-rays and I don't seem to be in any pain. I'm such a happy guy and I love getting attention! In order to help stabilize me when going on walks, I now have a wheelchair. When I'm inside on softer surfaces I do get around well without my wheelchair, but I definitely have a wobble. WCHS is unsure the cause of the issue with my hind legs, but it definitely does not slow me down!#1

I’m Bear, or Little Bear, as my foster family likes to call me. I previously lived in Illinois with my dad and then moved to Wisconsin. A couple months ago my dad had to go into assisted living so I was placed in foster care. It was a tough decision for my dad, but he could no longer take care of me. While I might have come from the Bears’ state, I can easily be swayed to follow the Green and Gold of Wisconsin! My foster mom says I have been quite shy and I have attached myself to her and my human foster sister. I love to be where they are as it makes me feel safe. It took a few days for me to settle in and feel comfortable enough to eat. I have been really good in the house as I have not had any accidents. I was never in a crate and always slept with my dad so my foster mama helped with the transition by allowing me to sleep with her at night and she says I am a champ. I love to burrow myself in the covers and prefer to sleep to the right of her. I sleep well all night long. During the day, my foster mom wasn’t sure how I would be in the house so I have been learning to crate. I find it to be a safe place and sometimes snuggle up with my blanket and new pet bed even during the day. I am quite picky when it comes to eating so my foster mom kept me on FreshPet since I had gotten used to that. I am typically quiet, but am beginning to find my voice. Speaking of voice, when my foster sister sings I like to be the back-up music. Maybe someday we can do a duet together?. I am starting to be a little more active. I will spin in circles when I am excited and sometimes chase my tail. I get along with other dogs (big and small) and cats, however if they are in my face I will let them know I do not like it. My favorite place to be is with my foster mom or my human foster sister who is 8. I love to snuggle and be held, in fact I like it so much that my favorite place to be is on a lap. I also love to go for walks and do well on a leash. While my foster mom says I am a good boy, I have had no previous training so I am learning to sit and come when called. She feels I would do best in a quiet or lower key home that has a fenced in yard (I can be flight risk at first as transitions scare me) or where my humans will take me for regular walks. Car rides make me nervous but I am getting better at them. I am used to going to a groomer every 6-8 weeks. I do great for the groomer and I am a champ when it comes to clipping my nails. While I do well with kids, I think I would prefer kids that are a little bit older (6+). I would be fine with another dog/cat or as an only pet. Coca has only been with the rescue for a short time, so her foster family is still getting to know her. So far, she's been very sweet but a little unsure about things. Once she gets comfortable, she's very playful and impish. She likes snuggling, but prefers to snuggle by her person's head vs their lap, so it's good thing she's only 12 lbs. She does ok in her crate when foster mom leaves and overnight, but can be vocal the first few minutes and when she knows it's time to be let out. She's working super hard at potty training and responds well to praise and treats. Most of the time she's low energy with periods of higher energy, which is consistent with her age.
